When Was Cable TV Invented?

So, when was Cable TV invented anyway?

At first thought, I assumed Cable TV Systems were invented in the 1970′s. However, this is apparently not the case.

Cable TV’s origins started in Oregon and Pennsylvania. In 1948, when the first Cable TV systems were invented, television signals could only be received by homes that were in the “line-of-sight” of the originating antenna, and people in mountainous or hilly areas could only receive a weak signal. Very Large antenna’s were constructed in these areas, and Cable TV wire was run from the antenna to homes in the area so they could receive programming. This is how Cable TV was invented.
